This film shows Richard’s medical detachment in action at Kirchenbirkig, Germany, April 15, 1945. Richard does not appear in this film. The man at marker 3:50 who is bandaging an arm and at 4:18 using scissors to cut open a sleeve is Capt. John Battenfeld, commanding officer for the detachment. Norman Eliasson, who took most of the photos in the book, appears at 1:02 to the right of Battenfeld and is holding a plasma bag. He also appears at 4:00 on the far left. As a side note, this film was shot by the famous American photographer, Walter Rosenblum, noted for his photos of the Normandy landing. He was the first photographer to document Nazi atrocities.
